Yes, a hundred times yes! And in two principal ways:

By mechanical action: whenever your face moves, it breaks up in several places, for example in the area of the naso-labial folds (the two big folds which start at the level of your nose and go down to each side of your mouth). As soon as you smile, this area of your skin will fold, then will break, giving rise over time to a wrinkle which will still be there even when you are not smiling any more!

If this wrinkle is injected with a hyaluronic acid gel, as soon as you smile this gel cushions the trauma and the wrinkle stops worsening. So there is prevention just in the mechanical protection of the gel.

By stimulation of the synthesis of collagen: hyaluronic acid makes up more than 50% of the weight of our skin, but with the passage of years the skin loses this hyaluronic acid, partly because the synthesis lessens but mainly because there is an increase in the production of hyaluronidase, the enzyme which breaks down our hyaluronic acid. It has been proved that the injection of hyaluronic acid improves cutaneous hydration but also stimulates the synthesis of collagen, or even elastin (particularly in skins still capable of synthesising elastin, which is to say people under the age of 40-45, or at the age when collagen is produced). In this way the wrinkle can be repaired, thanks to this synthesis!

In my practice, I have been able to see this very frequently, even in people of over 60! Since 2001, when hyaluronic acid came out for the treatment of wrinkles, I have injected many naso-labial folds and other wrinkles (cheeks, marionette lines, lion wrinkles … etc) and after two to four sessions (generally at one per year) I have needed to do nothing more; and then for four to six years, my patients have had no further need of treatment - although I have never used permanent, nor even semi-resorbable, products.

CAN INJECTIONS PREVENT THE AGEING OF THE SKIN?
